Forrópera is a project co-created by North American vocalist/composer Chrystal E. Williams and Brazilian accordionist/composer Felipe Hostins as a way to foster unity, peace, and understanding through music. They began their musical marriage in 2016, bringing world class performances to both stages and classrooms, alike. Combining elements of Brazilian folk music and classical opera, the husband/wife duo have created unique, flexible programs that encourage audiences to explore and experience music in new and exciting ways. A combination of forró (meaning “for all”) and opera (meaning “work”), Forrópera’s mission is to create and share works of art that are truly for all. So, step into the land of Forrópera and enjoy; a land where dancing, clapping, and joy are not only welcomed but encouraged!
